15 years of scale houses and inspections, boiled down to what keeps you rolling. The checklists, the cab binder, and the step-by-step fix for when the system gets it wrong.

Most drivers who get parked don't get parked for how they drive. They get parked for paperwork, brakes, tires, lights, or hours. In the 2026 CVSA International Roadcheck, the #1 reason drivers were put out of service was no medical card, and brakes and tires were the top reasons trucks got parked.

I'm Paul Johnson, The Hood Trucker. I drove trucks for 15 years, and I still hold my CDL. I put everything I learned about inspections into one kit you can actually use in the cab.

Why buy it:

  • Stop the cheap OOS orders: a 60-second document check that covers the papers inspectors ask for most
  • Find anything in 10 seconds: an 8-tab cab binder system with an expiration tracker
  • Catch it in the yard, not at the scale: a walk-around checklist built around the items inspectors write up most (brakes, tires, lights, cargo securement)
  • Know what to do at the scale: the inspection levels, what to hand over, and what to check before you pull out
  • Fight back when the system is wrong: a step-by-step DataQs walkthrough with a fill-in request template, plus the 2026 state review deadlines
  • Get rolling again the right way: how to clear a driver or vehicle out-of-service order, ELD malfunction steps, and how to protect your pay and your record
  • Every rule is cited to the actual regulation (49 CFR), the official FMCSA/CVSA page, or the IRP/IFTA agreements, so you can check it yourself

FAQ

Is this a physical book?

No. It's a digital PDF. You get a download link by email right after checkout, and it's also on your order confirmation page. Print the checklists as many times as you need for your own truck or your own drivers.

Will this work on my phone?

Yes. Open it on your phone, tablet or computer. The checklist pages are made to print on regular letter paper.

Is this legal advice?

No. It's general education from a driver's point of view. Rules change, and state requirements vary. Every rule is cited so you can check the current version at ecfr.gov and fmcsa.dot.gov.

Is it up to date?

Yes. This is the 2026 edition. Regulations were checked against the official federal regulations site (eCFR) as of October 2026, and the stats are from the 2026 CVSA International Roadcheck.

Does it cover hazmat, buses, or Canada/Mexico?

It's written for U.S. property-carrying drivers. Hazmat gets a few notes, but this isn't a hazmat manual.

I'm an owner-operator with my own authority. Is it for me?

Yes. The DataQs chapter, the USDOT/registration glitch section, and the OOS chapter matter even more when it's your number on the door.

Can I get a refund?

All sales are final since it's an instant download. If there's a problem with your file, email me and I'll make it right.

Can I share it?

Please don't repost or resell the file. Printing the checklists for your own truck or your own drivers is fine.

Not legal advice. I'm Paul Johnson, The Hood Trucker. I drove trucks for 15 years, and I still hold my CDL.
